Back from the dead…
Oh, hello there, Tumblr. I apologize for my extended absence, but I have great news…
I HAVE GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE.
Look:

Now all I have to do is find a job.
Yegh.
More to come soon.

The word “mindblown” should be used sparingly because, really, there are very few things in this world that actually deserve the title. It just so happens that Pinn Panelle’s ridiculously amazing cover of well-known dubstep producer Skrillex‘s “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” is one of them. If you’re not familiar with dubstep, the best way to identify it is by its endless layers of electronic pitches – ranging from ear-shattering highs to the lowest of lows – and its heavy, wobbling bass-line. The majority of sounds on dubstep tracks are usually made with computer software, which would lead one to think they’d be difficult for a rock band to cover, but Pinn Panelle does it without skipping a beat.

It’s hard to think about The Breakfast Club – perhaps the best thing to come out of the ’80s after parachute pants – without recalling one of Simple Minds’ biggest hits: “Don’t You (Forget About Me).” Who can forget the cult classic’s memorable closing scene, Judd Nelson’s triumphant fist-pump into the air? Although Simple Minds had already released a few popular tracks overseas, it wasn’t until 1985, when “Don’t You” appeared in The Breakfast Club, that the Scottish New Wave pop rock band finally entered America’s consciousness.

Since its release this past September, Rihanna’s “We Found Love” has become a bonafide hit. With the help of Scottish DJ and singer Calvin Harris, the massively successful Barbadian-born pop star dropped this addictive dance track as the lead single off her most recent album, Talk That Talk. “We Found Love” soon skyrocketed to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, clinching the spot for nearly 9 weeks.

Here at Cover Me, we often praise artists for their creativity in coming up with covers, but 18-year-old Floridian indie singer and Town frontwoman Courtney Welbon might have taken the cake with her musical version of one of Shakespeare’s most famous soliloquies. Welbon set Hamlet’s classic “To be, or not to be” monologue to music to memorize it for an upcoming AP English quiz. Little did she know that her clever cover would go viral online.

Look, guys, I made my Rundown Monday video…on a Wednesday…shhhhhh…..
Scientists invent the lightest material on Earth, made of 99.99% air thanks to a “microlattice” cellular architecture
The inventions of humans never cease to amaze me.
Kind of weird that my piece on Mainframe Bird’s cover of “High Come Down” — originally recorded by Chico & Coolwadda and featuring Nate Dogg (read full story here) — got picked up and is listed under the artist’s “Press” section. Weird, yet extremely satisfying.
There’s nothing like seeing your name in print.
(Or, in this case, pixels.)

A Loyola University Chicago journalism professor has filed a complaint against a Chicago police officer who allegedly detained him after he videotaped the arrest of a teen and erased the video clip.
Ralph Braseth, who also manages student media for the university’s School of Communication, told The Phoenix that he is currently working on a feature story about youths from low-income parts of the city who come to the Loop during the weekends. He said he recorded the arrest of a teen who jumped a ticket turnstile at the Chicago CTA Red Line station shortly after interviewing a group of youths.
